Review of "The History of Rock 'n' Roll in Ten Songs" on 'Goodreads'
2 stars
I appreciate what Marcus is trying to do here. Instead of the usual linear sequential this event led to this next event, he looks at single songs and tells the stories around them. There are some really interesting stories scattered through this book but mostly it all comes across as rambling incoherent free association. In addition, this book essentially promises to tell the history of rock and roll through these 10 songs. However, there is no effort to actually tie these songs together in any way into a history, which makes this more like 'Stories about 10 rock and roll songs'.
