I love Ian Cobain’s journalism, always incisive and engaged. A friend of mine used to say, dismissively, “Ethnography is just journalism,” and while I refute that statement on multiple levels, I have to say this book reads like ethnography (albeit without the theoretical bells and whistles), and that is the highest compliment I can give.
