I listened to this, and the narrator was quite good. I liked learning about Carville, and the leprosarium in particular. However, I didn't find Neil's story all that compelling. I tried very hard to keep an open mind, but he was just so... privileged, and I don't feel like he really learned any lessons in regards that. Or maybe just not to my satisfaction. He still seemed to view those around him as symbols – or in terms of how they could impact/benefit him.

Learning that Ella is buried in an unmarked grave did make me tear up though. His love for her came through in the book, and it was moving.

All in all, a worthwhile read/listen to learn about a tiny, secret part of American History.
