AliCorbin reviewed Little Bee by Chris Cleave
Review of 'Little Bee' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
Not as disturbing as it might have been, considering the subject matter. According to some, not as disturbing as it should have been. But the author might have toned down the atrocities on purpose, to give it a wider readership. It is most evidently a book with a PURPOSE, intending to expose the public (the British public, primarily) to the injustices visited upon refugees in that country.
The characterizations of Sarah and Little Bee felt plausible and were distinctive. Our Brit thought that Sarah was spot on for her own demographic, a middle class, London-area suburban English woman, almost to the point of caricature. And Lawrence was a typical Home Office minion.
Even those who liked the book found the ending a bit tacked-on, as if he had been at a loss how to wrap it up.
