Molly Foust reviewed West Heart Kill by Dann McDorman
Review of 'West Heart Kill' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
I could not decide between 3 and 4 stars for this and I place it somewhere in the middle. It was more entertaining than your average mystery and I liked the narrative boldness. The unexpected plot twists and the crapulence of all the detestable characters, who were miserable in just the way you want them to be, made it a valid alternative from ruminating about the real life consequences of these types running freely in the real world, which nobody wants to consider. It also gives many a nod to the classics of mystery and even film noir and in doing so sings the praise of the relentless, morally compromised detective and his attending cast of femme fatales, shady businessmen and fascist villains.
