Review of 'Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits' on 'Goodreads'

This writing style was perfect for me. It’s hard for me to place why that’s the case. I think it was just accessible and focused while discussing heavy themes.

I really, really enjoyed how much of this took place in Morocco. It’s more of a “failed” immigrant tale which we don’t get a lot of. Behold the Dreamers is one other one I can think of, though I didn’t enjoy that one.

I liked the structure of this story - starting with the boat ride and then showing us before and after. I loved the different perspectives explored. And I enjoyed the commentary on romanticization of Morocco and the Moroccan people. Though I have to say I had never heard of Paul Bowles.
