Protection from Firearms and Calm Sheep. Two spells a 9th century European emperor definitely would need at hand. My favorite bit is when Pope Leo III (750-816 CE) cites Pope Honorius III (1150-1227.) It is an interesting text though. It's fun to see what people felt they needed magic for in the 17th century. Unruly sheep? It makes sense.
