I really like the way that Hines manages to perfectly weave his references to geek culture into the greater narrative of the Magic Ex Libris series. The protagonist, Isaac Vainio, is able to use books to pull props from the imaginary worlds within into our world. Even better, Hines includes a list of books in the back so that if something catches your eye, you can go read the original book as well.
I love the parallelism of the chapter structure, with each chapter giving more insight into the dryad Lena Greenwood before returning to Vainio's quest to save the world from a terrible fate.
So far I quite enjoy the series and look forward to reading the third installment, Unbound
