In the tradition of Jon Krakauer's "Into the Wild," Rock's "My Abandonment," inspired by a true story and told through the startlingly sincere voice of his young protagonist, offers a riveting and unsettling account of a girl and her father who live off the grid.

Review of 'My abandonment' on 'Goodreads'

Wow — this story was both creepy and compelling, and also incredibly sad. Because it’s based on a true story, I’m now obsessed with finding out whether the ending was truly fiction. If you liked books like “Room,” you will probably enjoy this.

Review of 'My abandonment' on 'Goodreads'

Simplistic. Written in the voice of a thirteen year old, who comes across as naive, other worldly, or a smartass, depending. Choppy, with great swathes of lot unexplained. (Although it's possible that the holes were stretches that the library2go download silently drooped.) And a most definite creep factor.
