A masterpiece of Science Fiction

Ra is a tremendously well-crafted story on a scale far-larger than it initially seems, made all the more impressive by its serial release nature. Sam Hughes' works should go down in history alongside Asimov and Sagan.

What a wild ride

This book is unlike anything else I’ve ever read. It twists the world up in so many ways I just couldn’t help but love it. It can be hard to follow, and perhaps a bit heavy handed at times, but all that is more than worth it. The ending(s) really make the story whole but you probably won't like it :P

I'd love to see a new edit almost? It feels like it needs a professional editor and a print run but these are nit picks. If you want some sci-fi that will blow your mind go read it.

Enjoyable read with some nice twists & turns. It maybe should've started me to think about what real and virtual mean (?) - but it didn't; just enjoyed the read.

If you started the book and get confused because it seems to be all over the place - power through; it all ties up later on.

(read as audiobook with the 'old ending' - apparently)

Very good transcendental-hard-SF

I admit I was not always sure exactly what was going on, and reality was sufficiently malleable ATV times that the author could have pulled any rabbit at all out of any hat and I would probably have nodded and accepted it.

On the other hand I also had the strong impression that the author actually had it all worked out and was not in fact winging it, and someone with more discipline than I have could have followed along closely.

Mind-bending, wild, satisfying.

None

I love the concept here, and the story plays out pretty neatly. My biggest problem is that the narrative hops around a lot -- and for a story that relies heavily on things happening at a lot of disparate points in time, that can quickly become confusing.

Definitely a story worth re-reading.
