Robert Garland is one of my favorite recurring professors with TGC, and this in only my 2nd experience with him. I've already enjoyed The Greek World, and have at least two more of his lecture series in the queue. He's a passionate storyteller, full of wisdom.

This series was wide ranging (Paleolithic—Middle Ages), long (48 lectures), and focused on the common classes of people throughout varying ancient cultures. Instead of important names and dates, this series offers a deeper understanding into what daily life was like—for a Greek slave, a Persian laborer, a poor Roman, a Jew under Roman rule, a medieval woman, etc. I lost most of my notes from this course and look forward to going through it again at some point.
