Review of 'Total immersion' on 'Goodreads'

5 stars

One of the best instructional books I've read. Terry breaks down elite swimming maneuvers into manageable step-by-step drills. From the basics of learning how to float on your chest to triathlon tips.

Terry breaks his Total Immersion technique into something like 15 progressive drills near the middle of the book. Most drills are discussed extensively so that you know what to look for and focus on, like a coach is there with you. There are a few sketch pictures for reference, but looking up some videos of the technique will compliment the reading well.

I've never had a swim lesson or class, and this book has helped immediately in my first swim following the reading. Terry emphasizes taking your time to learn each drill well before moving on, so a slow and patient approach will make the biggest difference if you're teaching yourself from the beginning.
