al-Luma' fi al-radd 'ala ahl al-Zaygh wa al-Bida'

This book is considered to be one of the famous works of Great Imam al-Ashari, to which both he and his later disciples and his opponents in the form of the mu'tazilites paid special attention.

He taught this book in Basra in circles where the holders of knowledge were present, among them Imam Ibn Hafif, one of his closest disciples. It is unique in that it contains most of the Sunni doctrines proven by reason and Revelation, and refutes both dialectically and apodictically the arguments of various heretics, most of whom are mu'tazilites
