Two years after a horrible incident made them run away, vampire princess Lissa and her guardian-in-training Rose are found and returned to St. Vladimir's Academy, where one focuses on mastering magic, the other on physical training, while both try to avoid the perils of gossip, cliques, gruesome pranks, and sinister plots.

Bitlit meets Gossip Girl - beware :) One the one hand, the Moroi, vampires who, if you forget their specific diet, are... pretty regular people. On the other hand, Dhampir - half-human, half-vampire. Moroi and Dhampir all study in St Vladimir, the local vampire boarding school: Moroi because they do need an education, Dhampir because they are trained as bodyguards for Moroi, that's the way things go. Rose is Dhampir, and "her" Moroi is Lissa. We meet them as they get caught after two years of being on the run, and are sent back to school manu militari. Obviously, whatever danger they were running away from is still there. Hence, problems. Not great, but readable.

Rose Hathaway is the protector for her "live" vampire friend Lissa, who both attend "high school" for their "special needs". In any case, the mythos is interesting and well constructed, but nothing we haven't seen before. Though it's definitely nice to have a strong female heroine for a change (Cough Bella Cough).
