2 stars

The third and final Dragon Age novel by the former lead writer of the Dragon Age series of video games, Asunder is set between the events of Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Inquisition. While the last book dealt with the Gray Wardens and the darkspawn, this book deals with the conflict between the mages and the templars tasked with monitoring them for signs of demonic possession.

Various characters from the games appear, with Wynne in a major role and the introduction of Cole, but the characters were less appealing than in the last two novels and there was less action. The mage/templar conflict was a major part of the second video game, so it felt a bit like well-trodden ground here. This wasn't a bad novel, per se, it just wasn't as engrossing as the first two.

This is another hard one to rate, because if you love the world and characters of Dragon Age it's probably 5 stars, but if you don't, this book will be next to meaningless to you and you should probably skip it (or better yet, go play the Dragon Age games then come back).

Set about a year after the end of Dragon Age 2, this is mainly the story of Cole, who we will meet more of in Dragon Age Inquisition. It also wraps up what Wynne gets up to after the end of Dragon Age Origins, and mentions a few other familiar characters in less detail. I would recommend reading this after you play Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2. Although it's chronologically before Dragon Age Inquisition, you could play that either before or after and appreciate it either way around.

The plot mainly revolves around the mystery …
