A By-The-Numbers Walkthrough of Discrimination and Access in American Higher Education

3 stars

This book methodically runs through the historical arc of discrimination against different ethnic groups in US higher education until the end of segregation. The experience of different groups are considered in turn, and then different types of institutions that sprang up to provide higher education to some of these underserved populations are also considered. This is more an accounting of the experiences of different people and a compilation of damning statistics rather than an analysis of the changes that occurred over the decades. Overall, it's a sobering tour through the history of an important sector of society.
