Review of 'Into the black' on 'Goodreads'

A great introduction to the Space Shuttle programme starting at the initiation and leading up to the first manned flights. There are a lot of stories here which I hadn't head in other places possibly because they are now declassified. More than the Apollo project, the SkyLab and Shuttle programmes were linked to and assisted by the intelligence community.

I was especially interested in the parts about the problems with the tiles that plagued the Space Shuttle and which eventually lead to the loss of a Shuttle and the project coming to an end. Also the effect of the Buran project on the stretched Soviet Economy. Forcing the USSR to play catch up had long term economic influence which peacefully brought the regime to an early end.

I listened to the book on Audible which was a good presentation.
