Review of 'The Facebook effect' on 'Goodreads'

The Facebook Effect provides a history of the nascent site, from its inception at Harvard through its rocketing growth. I'm amazed Facebook managed to avoid so many pitfalls its competitors fell into, and this book goes over the ins and outs of its growth.

It's necessarily slow at times, being a non-fiction book. My eyes glazed over at some of the talks with VC and investors, as they all seemed to blend together in my mind so the gravitas of certain situations was lost on me.

The book is a bit forgiving of facebook's privacy missteps, focusing on the fact that facebook has never been directed at monetizing its growth, just growing more. I imagine it's not unrelated to the huge amount of cooperation and interviews Zuckerberg and facebook gave with the book.
