This honest, raw book for teens is the best urban fiction I have ever read. Admittedly I have not read much, but I liked it even better than Meyer's Monster. Though Monster is a safer more PG bet.
Tyrell lives in a roach filled hotel for homeless people with his lazy mother and his neglected little brother, whom he does his best to take care of. A few days in his life and you cannot really blame him for dropping out of school. I admire the author for being honest, non-judgmental and proactive. I read that she is a teacher in the Bronx, I bet she makes an incredible difference.
With the language, prostitutes, pimps, sex, drugs, etc. this book could be a possible magnet for censorship but is worth defending. I recommend it to teens in our rural community to give them a little insight into what life in …
