Not sure if nostalgia plays a part in how highly rated this is but it didn’t do much for me. The over-the-top violence is fun for about two chapters but it gets boring after a while. And for some reason the artist either can’t or won’t draw anyone’s faces behind bars, creating a weird floating head effect. And there are a lot of cages in this Mad Max post-apocalypse.

The story is also repetitive: main hero Ken sees the downtrodden getting murdered by bad guys, helps them by exploding said bad guys, and moves on to the next town; lather, rinse, repeat. Glad I got to read it but I don’t think I need to read anymore.

I think Berserk has a similar story structure but much more pathos and weirdness to keep it fresh. And Miura is a much better artist to boot.
