This is a weird one to rate. It started as a 2-star book, with an annoying protagonist and a general sense of aimlessness with the plot. It moved up to a 3-star book as Kip started changing and as we got other POVs and as the story started shifting forward, but it all felt a bit generic. And as we approach the climax and all the questions are coming together and as Kip comes into himself, it ends up around what I'd call a 4-star book. Very solid, very entertaining, very interested in reading more.

But that's maybe the last third of the book. For a large chunk I was read about a fat kid with too big of an attitude panting for breath, and it would mostly swap off with a practically flawless Gary Stu. This changed, as I said, but how do I consider a painful slog with …
