Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrived in Wayward Pines, Idaho, three weeks ago. In this town, people are told who to marry, where to live, where to work. Their children are taught that David Pilcher, the town's creator, is god. No one is allowed to leave; even asking questions can get them killed. But Ethan has discovered the astonishing secret of what lies beyond the electrified fence that surrounds Wayward Pines and protects it from the terrifying world beyond.

Review of 'The last town' on 'Goodreads'

3 stars

Briefly, like I wrote in the past, the whole series makes for excellent plane/train reading. I won't be writing any thesis papers based on them.

That said, all the way to the last 20 or so pages, I would have given it 4 stars for what it is: pulp entertainment. But to give a fair rating, you have to look at everything. The end of the book was a 2 or 2.5. The kid in me likes the open ending and wants to see an expansion somewhere in the future. The glass half-empty reasonable adult in me wants less puppies and more closure. It felt like a little bit of a cop-out. That sums it up.

It served it's purpose and if the author does write an expansion, chances are pretty good I'm reading it.
