I'm generally inclined towards enjoying Marvel's universe-obliterating cosmic nonsense, and as a lead-in to the actual universe-obliterating cosmic nonsense I guess this was fine.
But that's about it, really. This mostly follows the Guardians around, starting with Drax defending the Power Stone on his own and the others doing... not that. While I typically enjoy the Guardians, it wasn't exactly a brilliant story arc. Although Groot gaining the ability to speak and Drax destroying people with a killer sax solo was entertaining.
The Warlock stuff was interesting and had some ominous side-effects, as good Warlock stories do, but it felt like something of a side-story even though Warlock and Kang are the ones who kicked off this whole saga. The setup of the other stones was both minimal and unhelpful. Where did Logan even get the space stone? Who is Turk Barrett? What the heck is up with Captain Marvel being in another reality? For all the good it did these may as well have been excluded for more Warlock and Surfer ass-kicking. Maybe some of that's covered in the other Infinity Countdown issues, but it didn't really look like it from the titles, at least.
Normally I really appreciate the issues and series that specifically set up a major event so that I'm not lost because I didn't read Hulk #47 or something. This one was... less helpful, I would say. Not exactly a bad story or anything, just a bit unfocused and half-baked for what it was trying to be.
