Does it have literary merit? Does it have valuable messages? In my opinion, yes; you could talk about how McCarthy emphasizes realism over romanticism, and how thoughtful Bell is during his narrative parts. Does that make it an enjoyable read? Nope. It was very slow, and it only seemed to pick up towards the end.
