Big Jim and the White Boy

I've read two reimaginings of "Huckleberry Finn" this year: first Percival Everett's brilliant "James," and now the graphic work "Big Jim and the White Boy." The latter book, with bold, clean illustrations and design, jumps around in time and space as we hear an elderly Jim tell the story of his travels with Huck. Without giving too much away, we also see how Jim's story resonates with future generations. This is a moving, fast-paced book that effectively weaves together multiple stories, giving Jim the prominence and seriousness of purpose he deserves while maintaining Twain's sense of humor.
