Chris reviewed Assorted Prose of Updike by John Updike

The only memory I have of this is his dismissal of a parody of Lawrence Durrell which included the phrase "the Copt on the Beat" - because as Updike says, the original author would not have written such a thing (probably because Durrell was a humourless writer in the shadow of his more interesting brother who actually got out there and did stuff). Apart from that I probably borrowed this book from Hammersmith Library (or its satellite Barons Court), some time in the 1980s. Too long ago.
