Osi reviewed Speaking by Georges Gusdorf
For a book which centres speaking, it's a good read
5 stars
The introduction suggests this was written as a book to appeal to the French public. It feels that way - short, there are a wealth of subjects touched on which could have books of their own, and the tone is light. But it has the lovely touch of feeling almost inevitable, and nothing here will confuse - "of course" speech as an act guides all language, predating writing the way it does. Credit to Paul Brockelman for a lovely translation - no idea what it'd be like in the original French.
