Timothy Carrier is sitting in a bar when the man next to him mistakes him for someone else and hands him an envelope with $10,000. The man leaves after handing Tim a photo of a woman marked for death and her address. Soon the killer arrives believing Tim is the one who wants to hire him.

Review of 'The good guy' on 'Goodreads'

I'm beginning to think that Koontz is in a bit of a rut. Between the Odd Series ([book: Odd Thomas]) and his recent books he seems to have fallen in to the trap of rewriting the same story every-time.

Boy meets girl, boy saves girl with the help of a dog mostly Golden Retrievers, there is some mystic undertone and then there is the happy ending. I really miss Koontz older books, I think he's getting a bit soft.
