My name is Hope Arden, and you won't know who I am. But we've met before - a thousand times.

It started when I was sixteen years old.

A father forgetting to drive me to school. A mother setting the table for three, not four. A friend who looks at me and sees a stranger.

No matter what I do, the words I say, the crimes I commit, you will never remember who I am.

That makes my life difficult. It also makes me dangerous.

The Sudden Appearance of Hope is the tale of a girl no one remembers, yet her story will stay with you forever.

Meh.The premise was interesting--but the main character had the SAME revelations about "what it means to truly define yourself when no one else can" over and over. Then other characters would say them to her, just to make the point?

And did I really spend however-many-hundred pages to learn that human relationships are messy but they are a basic human need? Kinda think I already knew that?

Social media sharpens the knives already available to traditional media to tell us why we specifically aren't good enough how we specifically would benefit from a new haircut, watch, cologne, etc. Hmmm. OK.
