With this book, the series has truly come into its own. The characters attain here a depth that they spent two books building towards, and the world becomes vibrant and multifaceted in a way that was only hinted at before. The Oriati Mbo in particular is enriched tremendously by the deeper understanding of its history, traditions, and internal factions; and as Tau-Indi points out, its dramas play out in miniature in the people we see on the page. A tremendous novel that only disappoints me in my knowledge that I may need to wait several years to read the next.

Better than the second book. We get to see Baru get a little more back to her old self. Once again, she uses economics to get closer to her goals. This book also ends on a more hopeful note than the first two.
