Welcome to Wayward Pines, population 461. The town is a modern-day Eden... except for the electrified fence and razor wire, snipers scoping everything 24/7, and the relentless surveillance tracking each word and gesture. Ethan Burke has seen the world beyond. He's sheriff, and one of the few who knows the truth-- Wayward Pines isn't just a town. And what lies on the other side of the fence is a nightmare beyond anyone's imagining....

As a molecular biologist, I found the premise of the first book in this series (Pines) to be highly questionable, bordering on ludicrous. But I enjoy fiction and even though the book wasn't that well-written, it was definitely a cool idea, a short page-turner, and I can suspend disbelief. So I wanted to know where Crouch took it. I was also wondering if we'd find out that the story Ethan had been told was BS and something far more sinister was at work (which I'm still wondering since I haven't read the third book yet - but I plan to). All that said, I enjoyed the second book more; the characters were more intriguing and less annoying, the prose was improved, and the mood was even darker. And it's still just as irresistible to read as the first one, if not moreso. This town has its hooks in me too.

Pretty good continuation of the story. Keeps you interested throughout. I'll start The Last Town tonight.

SPOILER!!!
Sorta. Lol. I just have to say, everyone knows when reading that Tobias is in fact Adam Hassler. I really don't understand using such a cheesy writing gimmick. I mean really, he finally signs his journal "Adam Tobias Hassler" and we're all supposed to go, "oooooohhhhhhh! Now I see." C'mon. I'll give Crouch the benefit and assume he explains the reasoning behind it in the next book. Rant over.
