I expected this to be maybe somewhat interesting. Instead it was fascinating, illuminating, fun, and moving at different times. It was great to read about some of the experiences of Chinese immigrants who ended up coming to Canada and running Chinese "chop suey" restaurants, including the author's own family.

I love stories about the evolution of cuisine. Where do dishes come from, what travels and migrations led to them, and so on. This book delivers all that about what North Americans, and particularly Canadians, think of as "Chinese food" along with a beautiful family story as well.
