If you are looking for a great read this summer look no further than Roffey's excellent novel about a mermaid's impact on a small Caribbean village. I don't have the mental bandwidth to give this a proper review but I will say it is written in clear, readable prose (with a little poetry), reveals an orchestration of interesting characters and their vulnerabilities, and is imbued with a heartbreaking sense of loss. Monique Roffey makes it look easy but there is quite a bit of sophisticated craft underneath the hood. Currently the book I recommend to people the most!
