This book has not aged well. I honestly only picked it up because it said it was stories about contemporary Taiwanese life. There were only a few stories I enjoyed, many of the others stories had me cringing especially with her depictions of boorish foreigner behavior. Are foreigners really that bad or does she just hate foreigners? The foreigners in her stories range from the one that could speak Chinese fluently and was good, to the businessman only looking for sex, to the hypocritical missionary using his position for sex. I didn't hate this book but didn't love it either. 2.5 stars.
