Finally done with this enjoyable naval series!
I read some NY Times review of the series and they sounded perfect as a recourse from all the nonfiction I'd been reading, so I went ahead and dove in. A wonderful excursion from my typical fare. I love the dense nautical language and consistent British whimsy of the main characters.
I couldn't help but think about Jack Aubrey's exemplary leadership as a naval captain as an apt analogy for exemplary classroom leadership. Just as he develops his seaman through rigorous and continuous live fire practice in gunnery, while abstaining from punishing his crew unnecessarily, so too a teacher develops and motivates her students.
