T.J. Klune earned himself my blind trust after the truly excellent [b:The House in the Cerulean Sea|45047384|The House in the Cerulean Sea|T.J. Klune|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1569514209l/45047384.SY75.jpg|62945242], and I'm happy to report Under the Whispering Door has delivered on that trust tenfold; it's more of the same in the best possible meaning of that phrase - the heart, the vividly depicted and cozy setting, the endearing cast, the unrelenting positivity - while at the same time it's something altogether different, more thematically and narratively daring (it's not afraid of stepping out of the "wholesome family movie" zone that Cerulean Sea safely stayed in, and is better for it), more inventive in terms of worldbuilding (I wouldn't be opposed to more books taking place in this world). Other than that though, I enjoyed this book thoroughly and like its predecessor it proved to be the wholesome, escapist balm I needed.
