A biting and hilarious satire about Hollywood, and it also delivers on the mystery/thriller genre conventions. There were even times I laughed out loud. Plain old fun.
There’s general conformity in believing that a sequel cannot top its predecessor. The generalization stands firmer than ever with Robert Bloch’s Psycho II. I mean, after all the buildups, when you reach a decapitation scene and still manage to yawn and put the book aside directly after, you realize the pinnacle is well below sea level. And even though the ending caught me by surprise, it felt like someone was left with 10 minutes on his essay exam and had to rush everything with the vague intention of drawing a full circle on the story line. It basically left me at
“Normal Bates will never die …”.
