Interesting, but plodding at times. I kept comparing it to the lyrical quality of Out of Africa (which, admittedly, I have not read in twenty years or more) and found it wanting. I'm curious to read Markham's memoir West into the Night to see how it compares (understanding that this book is fiction, not a true biography.)
