Having thoroughly enjoyed both the BBC and Netflix adaptations, it's a delight to finally read the refreshed edition of the novel that started it all. The inside experience the author had as Maggie Thatcher's chief of staff really shows. The irreverence compares to a darker version of Yes Minister or Thank You for Smoking...

To revisit an old favourite and not be impressed like you remember being 20 years ago isn't unusual. To read the afterword and be informed by the author that he "updated" the text to include "more colourful characters" makes me suspicious. I must read the original text again to be sure!
