Consider this to be a review of the three book series, as each book is fantastic, stands on its own, and seriously builds both world and story. Some really grim stuff in here, but absolutely worth every word.
Still awkward perspective changes and dialogues that have me asking "who said what". Anyways the story picks up momentum in the last installment of the triad.
Sometimes I am glad to read books that are not ASoIaF, stories where the good people do not all die where things work out. Still the Tamir Triad could have done with a little more loss and conflict. That is really why I gave only 4 stars to the previous 2 books. Things are just a little too easy for the heroes in my opinion.
But I enjoyed that very much :) Not all books need to have the reader suffering. In the end I really missed the world of Tamir when I finished the series so 5 stars for the finale: go read it, it's a good story!
I was slightly disappointed in this book. First, it had been a long while since I had read the first two books. I did not own them to reread them, and I have so little reading time that I'd rather spend it reading new books than rereading others at this time. Anyway, there were nuances that if I had the other books to check, I know I would have gotten or remembered.
A good friend of Ms. Flewelling's died during the writing of this novel. The publication was put off by quite some time as a direct result of the death. I think the story itself suffered as well. At times, I kept reading because I wanted to know what eventually happened, not because I was enjoying the writing. That is to say, I became detached from the novel, which is a bad sign.
Overall it was an interesting read, …

Overall it was an interesting read, although clearly something was gained in the telling in Luck in the Shadows since I somehow missed a year lost at sea. Perhaps that was just a bit too much.
