You are better off watching the lectures/interviews on youtube (proprietary, don't start), or reading them in transcript form. This is the same information you would get, only with a side of 3rd person Stallman, boasting about what a big brained hacker he is.
Richard, betrayed by a mean, flow-breaking printer, decided to change the world's opinion on how software should be licensed. He has an ideology and sees it as the only way to go, though let's be honest - as much of a character RMS is, he is and has consistently been right about all the things he preaches to us. It is a good read if you want to learn more about the way he thinks, it is worth it.
