When Rona Blackburn landed on Anathema Island more than a century ago, her otherworldly skills might have benefited friendlier neighbors. Guilt and fear instead led the island s original eight settlers to burn "the witch" out of her home.

Review of 'The price guide to the occult' on 'Goodreads'

This book was almost impossible to follow for me. At first, I would go back and relisten to the last chapter and try to figure out what I had missed. But somehow I didn't become any wiser. So at some point I just accepted that the plot was rather confusing.

As others have written in reviews before me, Leslye Walton's second novel is nothing like her debut. "The Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender" was magical in the way a fairytale is and the writing was beautiful. Whereas "The Price Guide to the Occult" was a typical YA story albeit a dark one. If I hadn't known both books were by the same author beforehand I never would've made the connection.

In short, it's an okay read but if you have high expectations because of Ava Lavender you'll probably be disappointed.
