An entertaining look at what might have happened to Jane Austen’s heroines.. .
As both a mystery and a Jane Austen fan, I’ve found most of the spinoff stories tedious at best. I was pleasantly surprised by The Murder of Mr. Wickham. The way the author brought so many of the characters from Austen’s books together was ingenious, although she did make one impossible change, which I won’t divulge so as not to spoil anything for you if you haven’t already read the book.
The author’s writing style and tone are not incompatible with Austen’s own light touch, which added to the enjoyment. I do wish, though, that she’d been less preachy.
Definitely worth a read.
