The universe works in mysterious ways .

Alex Woods was struck by a meteorite when he was ten years old. leaving scars that marked him for an extraordinary life. The son of a fortune teller. bookish, and an easy target for bullies, he hasn't had the most conventional childhood.

When he meets curmudgeonly widower Mr. Peterson, he finds an unlikely friend. Someone who tells him that you only get one shot at life. That you have to make it count.

So when, aged seventeen, Alex is stopped at Dover customs with 1 13 grams of marijuana. an urn full of ashes on the passenger seat, and an entire nation in uproar, he's fairly sure he's done the right thing ..

Heart-breaking and hilarious, The Universe Versus Alex Woods is destined to be one of the most celebrated debuts of the year. --front flap

Review of 'The Universe Versus Alex Woods' on 'Goodreads'

Wow what an amazing story at times it was very light hearted and quirky, at other times it was pretty dark and moving.

I liked all the characters in this book with the possible exception of the bullies, but with the rules of bullying laid out you end up just laughing at their attempts to be big and mean.

The journey that the friendship between Alex and Mr Peterson takes is one that you can't help becoming part of, I am sure many people have cried whilst reading this.

The book loses one of its stars because it tries to be clever at the beginning by starting with the end and for me it gave too much away, I instantly figured out what was going to happen and that took away a lot of the mystery for me. If only a line was removed about the state of Mr Peterson …
