Slow but moving

3 stars

Slow to start but worth sticking around to the end. They say you read DeLillo for the prose, not the plot, and I can see why now. What he writes is secondary to how he writes it. The tone lands somewhere between reverential awe and sardonic skepticism, peppered with gorgeous descriptions of both the mundane and the grotesque. The last few chapters in particular are quite brilliant and moving.

I'm always a fan of Don DeLillo's deftly delivered, comically deadpan sentences, and [b:Underworld|11761|Underworld|Don DeLillo|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1334304280s/11761.jpg|2968156] is a masterpiece of American fiction as far as I'm concerned. Some of his later works aren't quite up to snuff, but Zero K hits it back out of the park. This is like poetry and philosophy and dark comedy all at once. Death and cryogenics and slow motion father-son dynamics. Enjoy
