Offering a murderer a reprieve as a food taster is an interesting way to provide someone a second chance at life. I liked the story, once I got into it, but I had some issues with continuity (rather minor, admittedly, but still bothersome) at the beginning of the story.
I don't mind bad guys being bad. But it seems Ms. Snyder has chosen a tack similar to Mr. Goodkind did in his earlier Sword of Truth novels, and that is that really bad bad guys will resort to torture and sexual violence, which I do have a problem with.
I won't be continuing this series.
