Review of 'Autobiography, Poor Richard, and later writings' on 'Goodreads'
2 stars
While brief and readable, this book concludes in 1757 and therefore doesn't include the events surrounding the founding of the United States or his later diplomatic adventures. The first third offers an interesting, almost picaresque look of a young Colonial boy coming into a trade, and the later portions have a bit to say about his activities in the local government (e.g., trying to coax Quakers to agree to military expenses) and his work as an inventor. However, if you were drawn to this book after reading some of his witty aphorisms from Poor Richard's Almanac or his ribald quotes recommending affairs with older women, there's not much for you here.
