Promoted as “the most amazing book ever written,” King Solomon’s Mines enjoyed lavish success. As far as adventure stories go, this classic tale of English travelers who discover a lost African kingdom rivals Treasure Island.

This book was horribly disturbing. There was little to redeem it in terms of plot line or character development. Mostly, it is a tale of slaughter and wildlife debasement. Perhaps, people in its day found the read worthwhile... I simply could not tolerate reading it. I have closed the book and am moving on.
