Read: 2002-2003
Originally read Wizard of Earthsea in 8th grade for English class and stumbled across the subsequent three books the following summer at my local library and devoured them.
Reread: 6/11/2022
Internal struggles and external conflict that reflect those struggles. Profound, thought-provoking themes and discussion. Fantasy setting that, especially at the time of the publication of the first book, challenged fantasy literature. The writing of the first books tends to tell rather than show which left me feeling more distant from the characters, but as the series and the author's writing progressed, I was drawn in more and more to the characters and their stories. I've always loved the archipelago setting of Earthsea as well as the magic system and the lore/history and this collection and reread confirmed that. If you are a fan of fantasy and have not read Earthsea then you do yourself a disservice.
