I REALLY ADVISE READING "BLINDNESS" FIRST.
it is not mandatory to follow the plot, but it really gives this book a lot more depth.
If the first brings us the shadow of humanity, this one gives you hope and how things can change with cooperation. It talks way more about politics in a more direct way and points out how authority and power are held in democracy and how we can change that
